RE: Western Digital Network Drives Crippled -- No Serving AnyMultimedia F iles

From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WD_Anywhere_Access
"WD Anywhere Access" also known as "WD Anywhere Access Powered by MioNet", is a "remote access" VAR product distributed
by Western Digital, based upon OEM Senvid's remote access product, "MioNet".

The product is composed of a server and client program. The service program is preinstalled on a Western Digital NAS,
such as the "MyBook World Edition", with 3 interface methods available to the user, specifically; Start, Stop, Reset.
Upon starting, the service establishes a connection across the Internet with MioNet. "

So ..... Looks to be more of a limitation caused by using the MioNet 3rd party solution rather than by WD specificlly
bowing to Hollywood! In fact, looking at the files you probably cannot share ANY multimedia file remotely via the
client (remotely from the cloud) but CAN certainly share the files across the ineternal network as it is a NAS after
all -

Personally, I'd rather build my own NAS or use a BYOD to allow for the drop in price per GB these days :-)

Cheers,

This is the most extreme example I've seen yet of tech
companies crippling
data devices in order to please Hollywood: Western Digital is
disabling
sharing of any avi, divx, mp3, mpeg, and many other files on
its network
connected devices, due to "unverifiable media license authentication".

All I can say is just... wow.
