An investigation by Canada's federal privacy watchdog has found that three
telephone companies failed to protect customers from data brokers mining
for personal information.

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner said Tuesday that Bell Canada, Telus
Mobility and Fido did not provide adequate training to staff, allowing a
data broker to gain unauthorized access to customers' phone records.

The OPC found that Locatecell.com, a U.S.-based data broker that sells
telephone records, was able to fool customer service agents into providing
customers' confidential information.
