Hundreds of thousands of people risk losing all the money they have in
their bank accounts by logging on to internet banking using computers that
do not have up-to-date operating systems, anti-spyware, anti-virus software
and firewalls.

A code of practice for the banking industry that came into effect yesterday
means customers may be liable for losses from internet banking fraud, up to
the value of their account balance or overdraft limit, if their computers
are not fully protected.
