The Main and the Backup circuit were 275kv on the same pylons.
The crane hit three circuits. (Despite the "Hey stupid, Power Lines
Here!" signs.)

The estimated losses are 23oku en (er 23million $??)

Of course, the program I am watching is like "PANIC!!!!! OH MY CHEESE!"
Nothing works etc. The Vending Machines DON'T WORK when there's a powercut!

I would say look at http://www.tepco.co.jp/en/index-e.html
but their site has completely melted.

In the news, the tepco people said "the risk of losing a line is 1 in
10 years."
So losing 2 is 1 in 100 years. They played the odds and doubtless there
will be
some scapegoats etc. ^^;

Note, Tokyo power is a) bloody expensive, b) extremely reliable. Many
people
have never had a powercut like this before.

omake: CNN headline "tokyo darkened by power failure"
