So, folk didn't "learn" from W97M/Brenda and W97M/ColdApe that the 
tight integration between Office and related applications and an all-
powerful system-wide scripting language in poorly configured and 
secured systems were a recipe for disaster?

I guess, in that case, we should be pleased for the "education" he 
afforded all those chronically ignorant system admins who failed to 
learn from those more subtle/less obvious earlier "lessons".

Or should we ask why so many "mission critical" systems were spec'ed to 
run such crappy codebases in such badly configured and secured ways?

Heck no -- corporate sys-admins (or the corporate-structural 
constraints they work under) are clearly so stupid they need a good 
solid kick in the balls to get any vaguely important point across to 
them...

Sorry, but if you were a sys-admin and Melissa taught you something 
important about your IT infrastructure, you were in the wrong job!
