If you read the fucking manual, youd've found this:
http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Neo_FreeRunner_GTA02_Hardware#USB_Host ;)
So it's one chip that does the magic. AFAIK this chip has been chosen
just because of this feature.

so openmoko got a hardware USB host chip ? or the chip is the same and
there is access via software ? in that case are other linux based
cellphones capable of that too ? like the new HTC phones
featuring Android .

"why are you so focused on cellphones only?"
you've got ideas to stole an enterprise owned information from their
USB disks when you are physically there visiting as a guest ?share
them with us please .

The only one which comes to my mind is the OpenMoko Freerunner.
Tho it's not actually a common cellphone, it's available all over
the globe and thereby "widely available". ;)

But why are you so focused on cellphones only?

anybody know of a cellphone widely available able to get
connected to a USB disk , see its content and copy , read ,
        write and make snapshots ?
i'm going to measure if its possible to steal private
information over corporate USB flash disks using guest's
        cellphones any hint is appreciated
