Background ========== Net-SNMP is a collection of tools for generating and retrieving SNMP data. Affected packages ================= ------------------------------------------------------------------- Package / Vulnerable / Unaffected ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 net-analyzer/net-snmp < 5.4.1-r1 >= 5.4.1-r1 Description =========== The SNMP agent (snmpd) does not properly handle GETBULK requests with an overly large "max-repetitions" field. Impact ====== A remote unauthenticated attacker could send a specially crafted SNMP request to the vulnerable application, possibly resulting in a high CPU and memory consumption. Workaround ========== There is no known workaround at this time. Resolution ========== All Net-SNMP users should upgrade to the latest version: # emerge --sync # emerge --ask --oneshot --verbose ">=net-analyzer/net-snmp-5.4.1-r1" References ========== [ 1 ] CVE-2007-5846 http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2007-5846 Availability ============ This GLSA and any updates to it are available for viewing at the Gentoo Security Website: http://security.gentoo.org/glsa/glsa-200711-31.xml Concerns? ========= Security is a primary focus of Gentoo Linux and ensuring the confidentiality and security of our users machines is of utmost importance to us.
