At least at one time, a "virus" needed to infect a file on the local system in order to propagate, whereas a "worm" was able to propagate via a running process on the system. See "Morris Worm". But hey, English is a living language, so maybe it's different now - but if you're going to use a definition different than what it was 10 or 15 years ago, quit whining when somebody else tries to change your changed definition. ;)
