From the annexed text:
"1) First, find the program Hyperteminal and make a shortcut to your desktop. This one is easy to find. Just click Start, then Programs, then Accessories. Youll find Hyperterminal on the accessories menu. Clicking on it will bring up a window with a bunch of icons. Click on the one labeled hyperterminal.exe. 2) This brings up a dialog box called New Connection. Enter the name of your local dialup, then in the next dialog box enter the phone dialup number of your ISP. 3) Make a shortcut to your desktop. 4) Use Hyperterminal to dial your ISP. Note that in this case you are making a direct phone call to your shell account rather than trying to reach it through a PPP connection." Now, my personal contribution: Be sure to get a modem (modulator/demodulator) supporting at least 9600 bps (bps stands for "beeps per second", remember these devices convert digital signals into "beeps", that are analog signals transmitted over the phony lines) I have heard there are commercial products supporting up to 14,400 bps, but they must still be very expensive. Definitely, 1200 and 2400 bps are not k00l nowadays. And personally, I find Trumpet Winsock much more 3l33t than Hyperterminal. Windows Winsock is not recommended as anyone knowing your IP address (Internet Physical address, the street address where your computer is located) can send you a ping of Death, which will not harm you physically, but will give you the blues.
