The company made the changes on Monday and has since been at the receiving end of a great deal of criticism from members of the tech community. Brian O'Shaughnessy, of VeriSign's Corporate Communications division, said: " In the course of implementation various users asked us to modify the service to accommodate anti-spam applications. "Because VeriSign strongly supports appropriate technical measures designed to reduce unwanted spam, we are reaching out to users and the community to make appropriate adjustments to the service." VeriSign secures a majority of e-commerce transactions and communications, and serves as the definitive registry for .com and .net domain names.
