Erm, Excuse Me, Honeynet....

1. I make reference to the Project Honeynet website^[1] where someone has taken it upon themselves to hijack a p62 article^[2], without referencing the original source^[3]. What has the internet come to? Really? When a group of nerdish whitehats with insecurities about their security resort to stealing resources from known pro- hacker e-zines AND DONT EVEN BOTHER TO CHANGE THE BEGINNING OF THE FILE. I mean, for serious, it's one of the worst cases of plagiarism I have EVER seen. The file has literally been copied WORD FOR WORD. It even has the original formatting with the cute little ascii lines across the page^[4]. And I mean those lines are just insane. Check out what you can do with them!!! ::::: ____ __|____|__ §/.O..O.\§ |=------=| \....../ \/(..)\/ (__) \/ \/ =---------= - - - - - - =---------= This is a picture of a dead frog next to a road. He wears a hat because he's Jewish, but has no beard because he is a frog. The road isn't to scale. 2. Okay so back to what I was talking about. If Project Honeynet wants to leech philez from phrack magazine THEY SHOULD DAMN WELL LINK TO PHRACK.NL ON THEIR WEBSITE^[5]. Otherwise they should just keep their dirty fucking hands off phrack and put them back down their own pants where they belong instead of trying to grab onto Joseph Corey's ass and pretending he is some kind of rogue honeynet employee and that the phrack article is something under honeynet's grande controlled master plan. 3. I want to encourage you all to kill eachother. This kind of behaviour, this kind of theft, happens on a DAY TO DAY BASIS. And why!?!?! It's because you all suck! Because you can't think for yourselves and need eachother to tell you exactly what you should be saying, what you should be coding, or how to pick up girls when you're over 300lbs and a 32yo virgin. PROJECT HONEYNET SHOULD DO THEIR OWN DAMN RESEARCH INTO THEIR OWN FUCKING VULNERABILITIES INSTEAD OF RELYING UPON HACKERS TO DO IT FOR THEM. And this is one of the major problems with the open source culture. I was reading through an article I wrote back in July 2000 about open source. And back then I'd written about the role of prestige and its affect on quality with comparisons to textbook socialism and capitalism models^[6]. And indeed 'back in the day' this did work. But really, today we see an oligopoly in the area of software and security (and even hardware but let's save that for another discussion), a state where larger groups of people now dominate certain areas of the industry (for instance GNU^[7], Honeynet, iDefense^[8], Microsoft^[9], OpenBSD^[10], Apache^[11] etc) and because they are already large organisations their size seems to automatically give them that prestige factor. Allowing them to get away with the theft of other people's ideas^[12]. I've always maintained that there needs to be a more effective mechanism of keeping control over the abuse of responsibility in the security industry. And many of you have agreed with me. But this kind of control starts with YOU the programmer, YOU the auditor, YOU the web content manager (otherwise known as 'webmaster' if you're a fucking ghey chauvinist trying to control the subliminal language of the internet as a path to future domination of society, just as whitehats tried to do with the term 'hacker' and just as people tried to make the word 'pussy' synonymous with something weak and undesirable when in fact, pussy owns you^[13]), or YOU the angsty person with a gun within 2km of ISS headquarters. But yeah. My main point is that project.honeynet.org should link to phrack.nl. fin.
