Thanks for the link. As Ollie wasn't a techie, it looks like he got it incorrect in his book. As you point out, even if it was deleted it was recoverable from backup tape. He was careful not to send the details of any agents in Nicaragua by email though and managed to shred the paper copies (again according to his book). Had their details became public their lives would have been put in danger (ironic for a man who'd successfully set a price for a human life, which he admits is his biggest regret).
