The executable should have been zipped, really, to
help negate the likelihood of maliciousness. Though,
not allowing it would be silly. The point of analysis
is to give other people a chance to disprove your theorem.
Thus, the executable is necessary to allow others insight
into your work. Should it have been guarded in some
fashion? Sure. Should it have been allowed? Absolutely.
   Security analysts must research all forms of
vulnerability, not just the ones they "feel" like
researching. That includes getting your hands dirty. If
you don't feel safe putting your network at risk, or,
can't take steps to minimize the risk your research
impacts: this business isn't for you.
