-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 When mapping out the internet, where packets go, etc.. We often find our packets going to a few large hubs and everything gets routed through ATDN, ComCast and ATT (United States). Since most of the packets on the internet end up going through these hubs, I was wondering has anyone had any first hand experiance with information related to internet monitoring ? Besides the usual goverment monitoring through Carnivore? And another question I had is encryption useful ? Here's an excerpt from BODY OF SECRETS by James Bamford (book about NSA) http://aliansystems.com/tmp/bk.jpg And from pratical matters that I am familiar with, today's super computers have gotten quite fast and cost-effective and ORACLE's Databases can process millions of requests per microsecond and branches of the government are always looking for ways to make more money, etc.. Monitoring the internet and what we search, and selling the data to advertisers seems like an ideal way to make 100's of millions of $'s. I read an excerpt from an article that said when Verisign tried to own the internet (route noname sites to it's website) it was getting about 750 million requests per day. And if the goverment is already mining our data, why aren't we seeing more targeted advertising ? Advertisers spent approx 281 Billion last fiscal year IIRC. I feel that good topics to discuss would be encryption, Internet Monitoring and Data mining. IDC reports that Security and Secuirty Services and data storage (mining and analysis) are following steady growth rates. Most of the encryption companies aren't doing so well, I believe most people believe that since there are so many packets of information being thrown out, if they look at the numbers it's highly probably that there packet will be discared cause there's so much clutter, etc.. So they see Terabytes of data changing hands, but many don't know the powers computers have reached and how efficient they've become :) thoughts ? - -sir kaber ;http://vertexabuse.cjb.net -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGP 8.0.3 - not licensed for commercial use: www.pgp.com iQA/AwUBP9OedFIfUl3yRgwCEQIpOgCgkKhP1KS9GViY1teXZKC/G5cMVn0AoLRi WyhPqunkQh5q1LYILSNDwQSY =i+B+ -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _______________________________________________ Full-Disclosure - We believe in it.
