The other caveat with validating email addresses is with IDNĀ¹ you now
need to support unicode in the frontend although your existing regex should
cope fine with punycode'd FQDNs in the backend.

Depends on what you are trying to do...

    first.last@fqdn
    address%other.address@fqdn

and many other formats are potentially valid, however these should really be handled in a mail transfer agent such as Exim (www.exim.org)
