MSN and ICQ Applications with SOCKS support

Hi list,
     I have a few qeries regarding SOCKS 5 compliant applications.
    MSN messenger(version 6.2) and ICQ (2003b) both are compatible with 
SOCKS but it seems that they use SOCKS server only to relay TCP traffic. 
But UDP traffic (for audio/video) is not passing through SOCKS server.
If these applications are SOCKS compliant why is that UDP relaying 
through SOCKS is not used?
Are there any other versions of  MSN or ICQ which use SOCKS for UDP? It 
seems relaying UDP traffic through SOCKS is rather insecure/inefficient 
and it is not used by most of the applications.
Are there any relevant links regarding this?
