welcome to RPM hell. I would install debian - the package management 
debian uses (apt) is more reliable than rpm...

Ok, you can find the gnome_core RPM you probably need to install (at 
least - if there are no other unresolved dependencies and your 
architecture is i386) at
http://ftp.linux.org.uk/mirrors/ftp.gnome.org/archive/stable/releases/gnome-1.0/redhat/i386/Base/gnome-core-1.0.4-13rh.i386.rpm
