Not sure this has much to do with firewalls per se, but you are aware that satellite-based communications have a relatively high latency (and some a high bandwidth * latency cross-product, which corresponds to a lot of data being "en transit") compared to more common types of connections, right? You'll need to _measure_ bandwidth and latency seperately in order to see what's really going on.
