looking for ipchains solutions

Folks,

I am experimenting with various implementations of ipchains for my Linux
private network. The various HOWTO documents (Paul Russell) and the
ipchains man pages don't provide enough examples for me on the behavior
of the many arguments that can be used in a ruleset script. Can anyone
out there recommend any resources (URLs, books, whitepapers) where I can
find more descriptive examples of ipchains usage?
