The DMZ capability is in ver 2.2.1, but will be removed in ver 3?!? I haven't downloaded it - I'm sure you're correct, but one of their sales people told me approx 2 weeks ago that the Lite version did not support a DMZ/3rd NIC. I did visit their site after reading this post - the 2.2.1 version has already been removed. :( Jim Moore 256.461.4381 ----------- PGP PUBLIC KEY FINGERPRINT ------------ 1D9C 3AC3 34E6 EEDF 22B9 7886 7797 6908 048F 049B ---------------------------------------------------

The current version of Gnatbox light (2.2.1) supports a DMZ. Version 3.0, due out any day now (apparently already released but not yet available for download), eliminates the DMZ and increases the number of internal users from 2 to 5. I use the commercial version at work and the light version at home with no complaints at all.-----Original Message----- My understanding is that the "GnatBox Lite" freebie does not support a DMZ... it supports only two network interfaces. The commercial version supports 3 NICs, and so you could create a real DMZ. GnatBox looked like a perfect solution until I heard the price... it's $1,000 for the software alone (you supply the hardware). While this is not exorbitant as commercial firewalls go, it is outside the realm of many SOHO users. Guys, I know the debate about 'build your own and understand itbetter' has beendone to death.....but I saw a recent posting by someonewith a list offirewalls and the GnatBox was in this list. I did somedigging and foundthe following info about a FREE firewall for what appears to behome users:GB Light is a fully featured version of the GNAT Boxfirewall. It has alimit on the number of IP addresses it supports. In default mode it supports 2 on the protected and 2 on the DMZ. You canregister with GTA inthe States to upgrade this to a 5 user licence. It has thebenefit of PPPsupport thus allowing a home user to use an old PC as agateway, using asingle IP address, to the Internet. The PPP supports asyncmodem/ISDN,cable and adsl. Thus a small home home network of 5machines can connectwith a single account. It provides full filtering, andStateful Inspectionprotection. www.gnatbox.com
