SNMP trap generation?

Can someone point me towards code to generate SNMP traps? I've managed
to steer clear of the SNMP wilderness but now it looks like I finally
have to figure it out. :) Amazing how big the books on a "simple"
protocol can be! :)

All I want to do is be able to send a string like "Warning will robinson"
to a management console. Anyone out there got code I can use to do that?
