Back in January, NSC provided a demonstration of Microsoft 365 security features that we have implemented.  At the 
conclusion, the group in attendance discussed having a user’s group to meet and highlight features throughout the year. 
 I offered to run point and make that happen.  Since then, NSC met with REN-ISAC and EDUCAUSE to see how best to 
accomplish this.  I’m proud to say that we’ve collaborated and are making this happen.  REN-ISAC is disseminating the 
below message to their members; NSC is disseminating the message to institutions; and I’ve collaborated with Brian 
Kelly on the approach as well as providing details to the EDUCAUSE Security Community listserv.



Next week, I’ll send out a schedule of events via the M365 mailing list below.  Not only can we share M365 
issues/challenges via the list at any time, a subsequent goal is to offer a demonstration on a M365 feature on the 
second Friday of every month.  Lastly, interested users do not need to be a REN-ISAC member or an NSC customer.  This 
is open to anybody with a .edu email address.  This is meant to be a truly, open and collaborative users group where we 
can share information and lessons learned with everybody in the Education community.

Because of recent community interest in the best ways to leverage the myriad of Microsoft 365 security features, 
REN-ISAC, the National Student Clearinghouse, and EDUCAUSE identified the necessity of a higher education focused 
users’ group.  After consultation with the EDUCAUSE Cybersecurity Program and due to the operational nature of the 
topic, REN-ISAC and the National Student Clearinghouse are hosting this initiative.  The group, with mailing list, will 
help facilitate the sharing of processes, ideas, and issues involving Microsoft 365 security solutions. 



To join, send a subscription request from a .edu email address to m365-sec-join () lists ren-isac 
net<mailto:m365-sec-join () lists ren-isac net>. List enrollment will be monitored and vetted to avoid spam requests. 
You should receive notification of your approval within a few days of the request.  

 

While REN-ISAC is hosting this email list, you do not have to be a member to participate. All interested parties with a 
valid .edu email address are invited. Please note, list participants are not considered members of REN-ISAC and are not 
vetted in the traditional manner, and acceptance into the mailing list does not confer REN-ISAC membership status. 

 

The default sharing guidelines for re-sharing information received on the list is TLP:GREEN. See more at
