We have seen them as well... We have given the link to the fraud reporting website for our state employment security commission on our HR website that talks about the furloughs..... Its just speculation, but it seems to be possibly related to people who have had some form of identity theft, specifically with taxes, in the past..... I certainly don't have any numbers to back that up, but it makes sense. -Jonathan ~ Jonathan Kimmitt CISSP, PCIP, CEH, CIPM, GPEN, CIPT, CIPP/E, GSNA Chief Information Security Officer Information Technology The University of Tulsa 918.631.2743 From: The EDUCAUSE Security Community Group Listserv <SECURITY () LISTSERV EDUCAUSE EDU> On Behalf Of Beth Albertson Sent: Friday, May 1, 2020 6:14 PM To: SECURITY () LISTSERV EDUCAUSE EDU Subject: [<External>][SECURITY] Unemployment Fraud Hello, I wanted to check to see if anyone is getting a flood of fraudulent unemployment claims. We have gotten as many as 25 a day. If so, do you have any ideas of how to stem this tide? I have advised our HR department to have victims lock their credit, but I don't really know how to stop the problem. I suspect most of the victims have their personal information available on the dark web.
