*Puts on ex-Blackboard administrator hat* The default is set to log users out after 3 hours of inactivity, but when you're taking exams if there is no activity in 20 minutes then it expires the exam session and the student receives an error message upon exam submission. Now, Blackboard autosaves each question as the student answers or clicks on another response so that counts as activity... but where we see problems is when a student is taking an exam with short response or essay questions and takes longer than 20 minutes between saves. But I digress. The 3 hour timeout period is generally what most people do. I've heard of people modifying it to 1 or 2 hours as well. -Kristine -- Kristine Putnam Lead Systems Security Specialist Wayne State University e: kriss () wayne edu From: The EDUCAUSE Security Constituent Group Listserv [mailto:SECURITY () LISTSERV EDUCAUSE EDU] On Behalf Of Chris Green Sent: Tuesday, March 22, 2016 4:45 PM To: SECURITY () LISTSERV EDUCAUSE EDU Subject: [SECURITY] Blackboard Timeout Policy All, I wanted to poll the group to see what your timeout policy is set at for students in Blackboard. I believe the default is set to log users out after three hours of inactivity. Thanks for your feedback. -C.
