What we have done is to create a web-based utility to create limited purpose accounts. We have classes of accounts (library patron, workshop attendees, etc.) with different durations, workstation restrictions, etc. Different sets of users are able to create accounts in each class-for example, only the library service desk staff can create patron accounts, special events staff can only create guest wireless accounts, continuing education staff create workshop accounts. mandi From: The EDUCAUSE Security Constituent Group Listserv [mailto:SECURITY () LISTSERV EDUCAUSE EDU] On Behalf Of Taylor Randle Sent: Thursday, February 18, 2016 12:32 PM To: SECURITY () LISTSERV EDUCAUSE EDU Subject: [SECURITY] Guest Logins Hi all, My apologies if this has been posted before - new to the listserv. We're needing some input/guidance on guest access to domain machines. I've searched the archive but mostly find solutions for wireless. We have a solution in place for our wireless - we have implemented a NAC that guests register with and receive temporary credentials - what we need is a solution/policy for guests to access non-wireless, domain-connected machines. A specific example for us would be a guest speaker who comes on campus for a weekend seminar and needs to use a podium PC to present. Currently we are using a generic account but an unknown number of people now know the credentials and the account is being used for things outside of the scope of its original purpose. We would like to get away from generic accounts completely in favor of associating a specific user to a login. Any input/experiences on what's worked (or not) with this topic would be greatly appreciated.
