Lanita Lanita Collette University Information Security Officer Northern Arizona University Lanita.Collette () nau edu ________________________________ From: Dr. Wayne Brown [noreply () qemailserver com] Sent: Thursday, August 20, 2015 2:00 AM To: Lanita Rae Collette Subject: 2015 Higher Education CISO Survey Dear Colleague, I am a longtime higher education CIO and the founder of the Center for Higher Education Chief Information Officer Studies, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization (www.checs.org<http://www.checs.org/>). CHECS is home to a longitudinal CIO study and Technology Leadership study. In 2015, I am continuing a study of the higher education Chief Information Security Officer. As the senior information security executive at your institution, your input is critical to this study and I am asking for your participation. As you know, the higher education CISO is a relatively new profession and I believe there is a need to gather more information about where they come from professionally and who they are. The research which results from this survey will present a detailed description of today’s CISO in higher education. The aggregate information will provide significant insights to benefit current CISOs, CIOs, and those who hope to become a CISO in the future. Past CIO and Technology Leadership study results have been widely published in CIO, the Chronicle of Higher Education, EDUCAUSE Quarterly, EDUCAUSE Review, Public CIO, Gartner, Campus Technology, and by the League for Innovation. The survey asks about the CISO, their place in the organization hierarchy, and what skills, education, and background is required for the CISO. It also asks that you rank a list of expectations of a CISO in importance and rate your performance. CIOs are also being surveyed. Your evaluation will be aggregated with survey data from CIOs. Your response and your personal information will be kept strictly confidential. The survey link is here: https://survey.qualtrics.com/SE?Q_DL=5umDsyCSL7fI73f_9XBBkUj3IrskWRT_MLRP_bIzSbvAuTknDaE5&Q_CHL=email The survey requires about 20 minutes of your time. Completion of the survey and return indicate your willingness to be part of the effort. Participation may be withdrawn at any time and your data will be destroyed. If you have any concerns about the risks or benefits associated with your responses, please feel free to contact me. As someone who spent fifteen years as a CIO, I know your time is limited and, therefore, your participation is greatly appreciated. Moreover, it will provide valuable research information for generations to come. All survey participants will receive a free copy of the CISO report.
