Description


Provide leadership in developing, maintaining, monitoring and supporting an information security framework to protect 
the Office of Information Technology Services information resources from inappropriate alteration, physical 
destruction, and unauthorized access.


1.    Develop, maintain, and implement information security policies and procedures in conjunction with Office of 
Information Technology Services personnel.

2.    Responsible for monitoring network and system security to ensure compliance with information security policies 
and procedures.  Recommend changes where appropriate.  Prepare periodic reports and updates on information security 
issues for the Associate Vice President for Information Technology Services.

3.    Monitor threat advisory reports from Internet security agencies and services and provide network and systems 
administrators with early warning of potential threats to the College’s network and/or systems.

4.    Develop and implement information security incident response procedures.  Assure timely response to incidents and 
coordinate incident investigations with internal and external security and law enforcement agencies as appropriate.  
Make recommendations for security modifications to prevent recurrence of incidents.

5.    Provide leadership in the evaluation and implementation of security-related technologies and techniques.  Assist 
with the installation, configuration, testing, documentation, and maintenance of security systems, servers, and 
services.

6.    Establish security requirements for new applications and technologies implemented by the Office of Information 
Technology in consultation with appropriate staff.   Review security characteristics of proposed application and 
telecommunications systems.

7.    Serve as the internal consulting resource on information security issues.  Maintain College membership and 
representation in recognized information security organizations; stay abreast of the developments in information 
security technologies and techniques. Obtain and maintain CISSP certification.

8.    Coordinate the development and maintenance of the Office of Information Technology Services business continuity 
plan and serve is primary lead in the development and maintenance of disaster recovery plans for mission-critical 
servers and systems.

9.  Assist in development and maintenance of security awareness education and training for users of College information 
resources administered by the Office of Information Technology Services.

Qualifications
 Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or related field and 4 years’ experience in computer system or 
network programming or administration, including security administration; the equivalent combination of education, 
training and/or certification (CISSP) or directly related technical experience may be combined in lieu of degree 
requirement; Strong technical background in information technology security and an in-depth understanding of 
information technology security issues, trends and leading practices, experience with and knowledge of network 
architecture and protocols, certification in some aspect of information security (CISM or CISSP preferred), strong 
communication (written, oral, and presentation) and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate 
effectively on technical issues to non-technical personnel, demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and across 
organizational boundaries are required.  Experience with a variety of contemporary computer applications and operating 
systems, and work experience in a higher education environment preferred.
