Does anyone have experience with CloudFlare

Our concern is preventing the bad guys from hacking our web server.  I have a friend who uses it and according to him, 
CloudFlare has filtered out as many as 9,000 threats in a six hour period. What I’d like to know is how heavily is it 
used in education and peoples personal experience, good and bad.
