making intranet content available to outside sources

We currently have two requests where content that is available only on my institution's Intranet site (Sharepoint) 
require access from external parties.
The two cases are:
1. Institutional Policies which must be made available to student council representatives

2. Research collaboration with external parties.

I realize these are very different issues, but am wondering what some on the list are doing to facilitate similar 
requests.
