Police Department Move

We are evaluating our current configuration for our campus Police Department
and would like to inquire as to how other higher education institutions
handle their PD clients and servers.  For those willing to share, we would
like to know how you have them configured on your network.  Are they behind
a dedicated firewall, limited or no access to the Internet, active directory
integration, especially if behind a firewall separating their clients and/or
servers from the production network?  Any pertinent information would be
appreciated.
