Re: University of Maryland Cyber Security Project

I will send the same notes as I have sent for prior inquiries like this.

Please provide proper EDU contact information for yourself and your research
advisor/professor. A research questionnaire from a Gmail address to a
Google document neither inspires confidence nor provides any connection to
an academic endeavor.

If there is an IRB approval number for your research, please reference it.
Because survey research is low risk to the human subjects, different IRB
panels have different views on whether it requires approval or even a
review.

If possible, please disclose your client's name. I'm not too keen on
providing information to unknown companies, and the rules of your research
funding may require transparency on who is funding the work.

Last, you mentioned that the information would be anonymous. Because this
survey is not anonymous, this is an inaccurate classification of your
research. While you may keep this information confidential, it is not
anonymous. It's a critical differentiation when doing survey research.

I may be a bit pedantic, but these are elements I would expect out of any
university-level research effect, particularly a senior, honors level work.

Subject: [SECURITY] University of Maryland Cyber Security Project

Hello!

My name is Olivia Shin and I am a Senior in the QUEST Honors Fellows Program
at the University of Maryland. This semester for our capstone project, we
are working on doing research for our client's new cyber security product,
which integrates various cyber security tools and automates parts of the
process.

Right now, we are trying to get an idea of what cyber security professionals
think about the concepts behind this product, and would appreciate just a
few minutes of your time to take a brief survey. All of your answers will be
kept anonymous.

Here is a link to the survey:

In addition, if you would be willing to participate in a brief phone
interview to follow up, please feel free to email me back with your contact
information and availability.

Thank you!
