Connie, We did a pilot for biometric thumb drives around 18 months ago, and found that the reliability of the drives dropped off a cliff after acouple of weeks of use. We stopped the use of biometrics on laptops after we deployed full disk encryption, since the software we are using isn't able to handle biometric authentication. If you get feedback, I'd love to hear it as well. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Brian Basgen Information Security Pima Community College Office: 520-206-4873 From: The EDUCAUSE Security Constituent Group Listserv [mailto:SECURITY () LISTSERV EDUCAUSE EDU] On Behalf Of Barrera, Connie Sent: Tuesday, November 03, 2009 11:34 AM To: SECURITY () LISTSERV EDUCAUSE EDU Subject: [SECURITY] biometric technology Greetings to all: At the University of Miami we're exploring different authentication solutions and we're wondering how many schools have deployed biometric technology, the scope of use, and what vendors/solutions are working well. Any information is you're able to share will be greatly appreciated.
