Information Security Architect - Brandeis University

Brandeis University's central IT organization seeks an Information
Security Architect to manage, research and develop techniques and
technology to support the complex information security needs of our
faculty, staff and students.

Responsibilities:

S/he will manage technology to protect users, computers, and
information from compromise. This task includes performing continuous
security audits of campus systems, and monitoring and maintaining
systems including network security scanning, firewalls, packet filters,
antivirus software, and patch management software.

S/he will identify potential problems including compromised, vulnerable
or misconfigured systems, compromised accounts, etc. This task includes
monitoring and maintaining systems including IDS, bandwidth monitoring,
user tracking, DNS logging, darknets, and netflow analysis.

S/he will work with supervisors, technical staff, law enforcement, and
community members as necessary to resolve problems and respond to
information security incidents.

S/he will seek to recognize the changing needs of the institution and
develop new systems, programs, and procedures to address them. This
development includes researching technologies, designing architectures,
and implementing actual systems.

S/he will develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive information
security education program for students, staff, and faculty. This
program will include multiple speaking engagements per semester of
varying formality.

S/he will provide high-level support, advice and coordination to the
university's technical staff and advanced users - project managers,
application developers, systems administrators, network engineers, etc.

S/he will actively participate in the higher education security
community such as Educause, REN-ISAC, Unisog, etc.

Requirements:

Some expertise with Linux, Windows, networking, and computer security
are essential, as are strong general technical skills. Expertise with
security auditing or malware reverse-engineering are desirable. We
encourage applications from intelligent, curious people of all levels
of experience.

Experience with any of the following technologies is helpful: Red Hat
Enterprise Linux, MySQL, PHP, Snort, iptables, nmap, WebScarab/Paros,
kismet, metasploit, tcpdump, netflow, Nessus, SNMP, Cisco FWSM, Cisco
IOS, Tenable PVS, Cacti.

Applicants should be comfortable and productive working with limited
direct supervision, and helping determine their own priorities and
schedules.

Job Location:

The position is located on the Brandeis University campus in Waltham,
Massachusetts in the western suburbs of Boston. The campus is
convenient to I-95 and I-90 and the Brandeis/Roberts MBTA commuter rail
station.
