Sr. Computer Forensic Info Security Systems Engineer

The Information Security team at The George Washington University is currently seeking a Sr. Computer Forensic 
Information Security Systems Engineer to architect, operate and maintain the GWU forensic information security 
capabilities and implement security solutions, and standards for administrative and academic systems and networks.

Responsibilities include:
o       Architects and plans ongoing forensic capabilities. 
o       Performs forensic analysis on computer systems and makes recommendations for remediation. 
o       Provides senior oversight and approves forensic reports created by security engineers prior to final 
distribution. 
o       Architects intrusion detection and intrusion prevention systems, including signature development and custom 
scripts. 
o       Oversees the implementation, maintenance and analysis of results from intrusion detection systems, intrusion 
prevention systems, network mapping software and other tools to protect, detect and correct information security 
related vulnerabilities and events. 
o       Monitors the network and central computing assets for the proper security procedures, software, and signs of 
compromise. 
o       Architects and plans policy enforcement tools with direction from the Chief Security Officer (CSO). 
o       Serves as primary technical liaison and contact regarding security events to include coordinating activities 
through the CSO with the General Counsel’s Office, Human Resources, Student Judicial Services, and Law Enforcement.  
Oversees security events relating to University users, Local Support Partners and network and security managers. 
o       Implements protective efforts for the University’s information networks for the distribution of administrative, 
academic, and research data, to include developing specifications for security equipment software and procedures 
necessary for data security. 
o       Develops specifications for security equipment, software and procedures necessary for data security. 
o       Evaluates future security requirements and develops and recommends technical and operational solutions 
accordingly. 
o       Provides training, as appropriate, to Computer Forensic Information Security Systems Engineers, and the student 
workers/security interns, Local Support Partners, and others regarding the use of security equipment, procedures, 
software and the installation of security components. 


Minimum Qualifications: 

A Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems (or a closely related field) or an equivalent combination of education, 
training and experience is necessary.

A minimum of six years of professional information technology experience, to include two years of professional 
experience in the operation and installation of security systems specifically related to intrusion detection, intrusion 
prevention, and/or forensics, a minimum of three years of UNIX, Novell, and/or Microsoft systems administration 
experience, and a minimum of two years of networking experience, is necessary.

Excellent interpersonal and communications skills are necessary.

Experience within a university environment is desirable.

Final candidates for this position must be able to satisfy an employment background check which includes education,
