Hello,

I am pleased to announce the availability of Version 2 of MOPR for
public release.

What is it?

MOPR is Malware Outbreak Prevention for ResNets. MOPR is a framework
for scanning client computers for Anti-Virus and Windows update
compliance. MOPR is an IE hosted .Net control that can be inserted
into a web registration system, or run as a pseudo stand alone client
that connects to your web registration system. An IE hosted .Net
control is simply a .Net dll that is loaded into Internet Explorer from
a web server similar to a Java applet.

Control over various MOPR parameters are made via XML files that reside
alongside the MOPR dll on the web server. Software and required
prerequisites are made available via an installation program making the
system a Step 1 (Install) and Step 2 (Scan) process. Links to Windows
Update and your campus Anti-Virus download locations are presented upon
failure of a scan.

MOPR uses the Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer to determine patch
compliance and Security Center WMI queries and or File/Registry/Process
Scans to check for Anti-Virus status. It can also pass or fail
computers based on operating system service pack status and can
configure auto updates on client systems.

Because MOPR uses the MBSA to scan for compliance there is no
configuration at the server or client level once the system is setup.
As updates get released from Microsoft, the MBSA downloads new cab files
and scans for new vulnerabilities immediately. MOPR can also be
configured to scan for Office Updates.

This version is a ground up rewrite of the software presented at the
Educause '05 Security Professionals Conference.
