Re: Call for Papers, HICCS-40 Waikoloa, Hawaii (Big Island) (fwd)

Hi Randy,

Have fun at Waikoloa Hilton! (you are going I trust). I went to a FIRST
meeting there a few years back. It's a beautiful place with stunning
sunsets and coffee ;)

The only downside is that you are effectively captive in the hotel and
have to eat there. Even the American at the meeting were complaining
about the cost. The nearest shops are about 20 minutes walk and they
were pretty basic -- just supermarket and bottle store and service station.

Oh yes, don't trust the local airport shuttle operators! They were over
an hour late picking me up (I suspect so they could take some others
going on a later flight in one trip) and got me to the airport with just
5 minutes to spare. Then I had to endure abuse from the check-in staff
who swore my ticket was not valid (which it wasn't). Apart from that I
enjoyed Hawaii -- there are parts of the Island that are very like Auckland.

Russell

Internet Security: Intrusion Detection and Prevention in Mobile Systems
This session will focus on the types of security problems that can occur in
mobile wirelessly-connected systems, the solutions for known problems, and
strategies for circumventing these problems in the future.

Topics:
O Identification of intrusion mechanisms specific to mobile devices and the
measures that can be taken to exclude their use.
O Recognition of system and network technical vulnerabilities that are
specific to mobile devices.
O Establishing and implementing minimum sets of security requirements
(standards) in a mobile environment.
O Security breach detection and recovery: mechanisms to detect when critical
data has been altered and knowing when to rollback to recovery data.
O Mobile network performance issues related to the use of security measures.
O Software design methods to allow mobile devices to be inherently more
secure.
O Certification of security compliant mobile appliances and how this process
might affect use of the wireless Internet or Bluetooth networks.
O User training and support for maintaining an individual’s part of the
mobile Internet.
