Satellite phone

In reviewing our disaster recovery plan a question came up about
telephone service during a disaster. In a large disaster normal phone
lines could be knocked out and cell phone towers could be overloaded.
That brought up the question of a satellite phone and service plan.

What I would like to know is;

  Have others looked into purchasing one or more satellite phones and
service plans to be used in a disaster?

  What phone did you choose and why?

  What level of service plan did you go with?

  Are you satisfied with the quality of service and voice quality when
using the satellite phone?

  Did you purchase a data cable to attach the Sat Phone to a computer?

  Would you purchase the same hardware and service plan if you had to do
it again from scratch?

And just about any additional information / pearls of wisdom / 2 cents
you may want to provide on the subject.
