Position: Forensic Information Security Systems Engineer
Location: Washington, DC, United States
Type:       Permanent F/T

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
To operate and maintain the GWU forensic information security
capabilities and implement security solutions, and standards for
administrative and academic systems and networks.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Perform forensic analysis on computer systems and make
recommendations for remediation.
2. Implement, maintain and analyze results from intrusion detection
systems, intrusion prevention systems, network mapping software and
other tools to protect, detect and correct information security related
vulnerabilities and events.
3. Monitors the network and central computing assets for the proper
security procedures, software, and signs of compromise.
4. Serves as primary liaison and contact regarding the security events,
which includes coordinating activities with university users, Local
Support Partners and external network and security managers.
5. Implement protective efforts for the university’s Information
networks for the distribution of administrative, academic, and research
data, which includes developing specifications for security equipment
software and procedures necessary for data security.
6. Develops specifications for security equipment, software and
procedures necessary for data security.
7. Evaluates future security requirements and develops and recommends
technical and operational solutions accordingly.
8. Provides training, as appropriate, to Security Interns, Local Support
Partners, and others regarding the use of security equipment,
procedures, software and the installation of security components.

ENTRY-LEVEL QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems (or a closely related field),
or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience is
necessary.
A minimum of one year of professional experience in operation and
installation of security systems specifically related to intrusion
detection, intrusion prevention, and/or forensics is required.
A minimum of two years of UNIX, Novell, and/or Microsoft system
administration experience is necessary.
A minimum of two years networking experience necessary.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.
Experience within a university environment preferred.
