The Chronicle of Higher Education has a supplement on IT in higher education that came out today. It contains an article written by David Wilson, a former MS student here, and me on the question of whether open source or proprietary source is more secure. There is also a nice article on other considerations (and problems) with open source projects in higher ed. I am unsure of whether you can access both articles without being a subscriber (I am), but often these articles are available for 5-10 days without a subscription. They are definitely available in the hard copy edition, in a library near you. :-) The article by Dave and myself: <http://chronicle.com/weekly/v51/i05/05b02102.htm> The costs article: <http://chronicle.com/weekly/v51/i05/05b00101.htm> Other interesting articles on IT: <http://chronicle.com/indepth/infotech/> ********** Participation and subscription information for this EDUCAUSE Discussion Group discussion list can be found at http://www.educause.edu/groups/.
