In the dark corners of the internet a stranger’s credit card details are
bought and sold for as much as €40.

It makes the theft of 376,000 customers’ details from an Irish database
worth up to €15million.

It also explains why real-life gangsters are behind lucrative cyber crimes
and why computer hacking hasn’t been the preserve of spotty geeks for years.

Sources in the security business suggest a so-called ‘SQL injection’ was
used to steal the information from Loyalty Build, a Co. Clare firm.

The criminals found a flaw that let them install a bit of software on to
the firm’s computer network.
