http://www.citizen-times.com/article/C4/20130815/NEWS06/308150150/ *BIG RAPIDS* — — Ferris State University says personal information for approximately 39,000 people may have been compromised when someone slipped past the university’s security network. FSU officials learned about the security breach on July 23. FSU chief technology officer John Urbanick said administrators immediately shut down the server and hired a national computer forensic firm to investigate the incident and set up safeguards. Urbanick said the company didn’t find any evidence that the hacker viewed or removed any information, and there haven’t been any reports of identity theft so far. University officials mailed letters to potential victims Wednesday. They include 19,000 current, former and prospective students with a student identification number. Those numbers may be changed by visiting Ferris State's website <http://www.ferris.edu/>. FSU is offering one year of free credit monitoring to address concerns. The university also has set up a call center for help, which is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The toll free number is 877-283-6566.
