http://www.news-gazette.com/news/local/2013-06-20/another-hack-former-ui-student-uncovered.html Another exploit of the former University of Illinois student known as the ECE Hacker has been uncovered, but police said the situation is under control. Daniel Beckwitt was recently sentenced to probation in connection with the tampering of campus computers and e-mail accounts. And this week, it was made known that Beckwitt gained access to nearly 3000 social security numbers of residents at the Hendrick House residence hall in Urbana, where Beckwitt was at one time a resident. UI Police Dectective James Carter said the breach took place sometime during the 2011-2012 school year. Carter also said that police believe that the stolen numbers weren't used, but said if you think you may be affected, you should check your credit report and other financial information. Carter said that he doesn't think any new charges will be filed against Beckwitt in connection with this incident. Meanwhile, General Manager at Hendrick House Becky Rowe admits that the data that was taken was not encrypted, but she said that personal information will be encrypted in the future. She said residents who may have had their information taken are being notified. _______________________________________________ Dataloss-discuss Mailing List (dataloss-discuss () datalossdb org) Archived at http://seclists.org/dataloss/ Unsubscribe at http://lists.osvdb.org/mailman/listinfo/dataloss-discuss Supporters: Risk Based Security (http://www.riskbasedsecurity.com/) Risk Based Security equips organizations with security intelligence, risk management services and on-demand security solutions to establish customized risk-based programs to address information security and compliance challenges.
