The University of B.C. is reviewing its security procedures after the
theft of a laptop containing personal information on thousands of students
and faculty members.

RCMP retrieved the computer last month, 10 days after it was stolen from a
vehicle in the Metrotown area.

According to information sworn to obtain a search warrant, the MacBook Pro
computer contained names, email addresses and student numbers for 50,000
people who attended UBC between 2007 and 2012.

During the time it was missing, someone changed the user name and accessed
the internet 15 times, the documents say. But the encrypted information
was never touched or in danger, according to UBC spokeswoman Lucie
McNeill.
