City Employees Get Bad PayPal Bills In ID Theft Case

PITTSBURGH -- Water cooler talk led Pittsburgh police to discover that
at least 29 city employees -- including some police employees -- were
victims of identity theft, apparently through bad PayPal accounts.

 "Several city employees were talking amongst each other," Sgt.
Michael Del Cimmuto said. "One made mention that they were a recent
victim of identity theft. The other one commented that they, too, were
a victim of identity theft -- at which point we circulated information
and requested that everyone check their accounts and see if they were
also victims."

The employees said they got bills for PayPal purchases that they never
made, with transaction amounts ranging from $40 to $3,000.
