Security breach at NH prison

State officials are trying to figure out how a 64-page list containing the 
names and Social Security numbers of about 1,000 employees of the state 
Department of Corrections ended up under the mattress of a minimum 
security prisoner.

The security breach was discovered Friday in a routine search of the 
prisoner's room, according to prison spokesman Jeffrey J. Lyons. Officials 
are not aware of any employee's Social Security numbers being compromised 
because of the security breach, he said.

A preliminary investigation determined the March 8, 2008, document came 
from the Lakes Region facility in Laconia, which shut down on June 30, 
Lyons said.
