Following a link in in the article [1] revealed another interesting incident:

Blogging platform JournalSpace (which I’d never heard of to date)
has ceased to be, following a wipe-out of the main database for
which there was no back-up in place. According to the
JournalSpace blog, the database was overwritten as a result of a
    malicious act from a disgruntled ex-employee. [2]

It makes me wonder what other acts the disgruntled employee may have
performed, such as grabbing the customer database...

backup and storage provider Carbonite has lost data of 7,500+ customers

data was actually lost or not)

The newspaper gets the information from a lawsuit that was filed by the
Boston company last week, alleging that two of its service providers sold
it over $3 million worth of defective hardware, linking this to the loss
of their customers data and as a result, bringing substantial damage to
 its business and reputation.
