CA: Bank warns customers after theft

The theft of seven laptop computers from an auditing firm has led the 
Borrego Springs Bank to send warning letters to all of its customers 
saying their personal financial information may be in the hands of 
criminals.

The thefts occurred March 5, but the firm didn't report them to the bank 
until March 18, Julie Smart, the bank's executive vice president and chief 
administrative officer, wrote in the letter that most of the bank's 
customers received Tuesday.

Borrego Springs Bank, owned by the Viejas Band of Mission Indians, is the 
only bank in the small desert town that has a walk-in office. The tribe 
also has Borrego Springs Bank branches in La Mesa and at the Viejas Outlet 
Center in Alpine. In the letter, Smart said a police report has been 
filed.
