A document with the Social Security numbers of more than 500 Elk
Grove Unified School District employees was lost by a district
employee more than a month ago, according to Mary Deutsch, president
of the California School Employee Association local in Elk Grove.

Deutsch said the district was slow in responding to the security breach.

The district agreed with Deutsch's assertion Tuesday.

"The issue did not get addressed as quickly as we would have liked,"
said Elizabeth Graswich, the district's director of communications.

Each month, a CSEA member picks up a letter that contains both the
document and a check for chapter dues of 520 CSEA members from the
district payroll department.
