Proposal: Dataloss-Announce and Dataloss-Discuss mail lists

From: lyger <lyger () attrition org>

Hi all,

Since recent events have provoked quite a bit of discussion regarding
auditing, compliance, and PCI-DSS, we have received a few requests to
consider either setting up a web-based forum on DataLossDB.org or to split
the DataLoss mail list into two seperate lists for "announcements" and
"discussion".

An "Announce" list would primarily be for news only and would continue to
be moderated to exclude off-topic, fringe, or discusssion about the events
sent to the list.

A "Discussion" list would be for, well, discussion about incidents,
auditing, compliance, PCI-DSS, and all other topics that may be considered
of interest to those who are interested in such topics. Generally, this
list would be moderated to a very small extent (such as to exclude those
who try to promote services to list members) and would be more open to
lengthy threads and sharing of ideas.

We would like to ask for thoughts and ideas regarding this proposal, so
please email us at curators () datalossdb org to let us know what you think.
With that said, please DO NOT REPLY DIRECTLY TO THIS EMAIL. Mail the
curators@ address. All replies to this email or sent to the dataloss@
address will be rejected, quite possibly with a snarky comment,
finger-pointing, and giggling.

Thanks, everyone...

Lyger

(p.s. thanks to those who trim extra footers and excessive quoted material
from their responses to current list threads)

(p.p.s. the Visa/PCI thread is dead now, future replies will be discarded
due to moderator time constraints)
