Seems like a trivial amount of fines, though this only lists that as _part_ of the settlement: Bank Of New York Mellon To Pay State $150,000 February 4, 2009 The Bank of New York Mellon will pay Connecticut $150,000 as part of a settlement for a data breach that affected more than 600,000 residents, state officials said Tuesday. The bank will continue to provide those affected by the breach with credit monitoring and fraud alerts for a total of 36 months of protection. It will also reimburse anyone for funds stolen from their accounts as a direct result of the data breach, Attorney General Richard Blumenthal said. The Bank of New York Mellon lost an unencrypted computer tape in February 2008 containing personal information for millions of Americans, including 600,000 Connecticut residents, as it was being transported by a vendor hired by the bank. The tape has not been recovered. http://www.courant.com/business/hc-bizdigbrf0204.art1feb04,0,2884839.story _______________________________________________ Dataloss Mailing List (dataloss () datalossdb org) CREDANT Technologies, a leader in data security, offers advanced data encryption solutions.
